Case Studies Overview
Level 5 Children and Young People and Families Manager
This guide is designed to set the scene for what to include in your assignments. Whilst each assignment will be slightly different there are certain themes that will need to be included in each one.
In a Level 5 qualification you need to be looking both into your service as well as out into the wider industry and community to identify how they interact. It is important that we get into the habit from the start to also include the Golden Threads. This guidance is designed to support alongside the workshop Course Overview.
Legislation : What is key in a Level 5 qualification is to consider not only what legislation affects you but where it came from, how it has developed and in what ways it helps or hinders.
Guidance : Guidance is very often the workhorse of legislation. Also as often the guidance alters between the writing of the law and the application. We need to look at that in the way it affects your work. As well as that the nature of your roles includes a lot of guidance that is not set out in Law. Consider the impact of this, the use of it, the impact if this guidance is not followed and most importantly what evidence or reason caused this guidance to exist in the first place?
Evidence : Every statement of opinion or thought you make needs to be accompanied with an example. Think in terms of writing to your ombudsman or local authority. If you make a statement without evidence prepare to be asked for an example from your tutor.
Real world examples : Every case study needs to come from your experience or your service. It can be something that has occurred in your service and you are looking at it and analysing it in some cases. With the Level 5 we look up at what’s governing us, across at what’s guiding us and directly at who we work with.
Harvard Referencing : Wherever you reference anyone else’s work in anyway , it is essential to reference correctly. Not only is this a course requirement but it is also a good way to reinforce our need as Managers to evidence our statements.
